Tangram is a geometric puzzle that originated in China over 4000 years ago. It starts out as a square and then is cut into seven pieces. Tangrams are traditionally used to tell stories. There are a few puzzle you can find at pbs.org or you can buy book in your local book stores.
I enjoyed playing this when I was little, not even in grades school. I just copy the shape within the book. Now, my DS who is in 3rd grade just learn this today. I have to buy a book myself to make some shape and teach all of my kids about this. Below is a pattern that you can print and trace it over a construction papers or different color banner boards. You can make it as big as you want, all you have to do is start with square and cut the pieces from there.
I am sure that my kids will like playing with this. There are so many puzzles online that you can find. Just type "tangram" in the search box.
